At the third annual Governor’s Workforce Summit, Georgia’s economic momentum took center stage. Governor Brian Kemp highlighted the state’s impressive growth and the bold initiatives designed to train a skilled workforce ready for the demands of today and tomorrow.
For the 12th year in a row, Georgia has been recognized as the top state for business by Area Development magazine—a testament to its favorable business climate and strategic investments. With over $26 billion poured into communities across the state, Georgia continues to expand opportunities while addressing one of its biggest challenges: workforce shortages.
Healthcare stands out as a pressing need. By 2035, the state will need to fill an estimated 240,000 healthcare positions. To meet this demand, Georgia has invested $675 million in medical education, including a new dentistry school at the University of Georgia. Programs like Georgia Match have already opened doors for nearly 25,000 students who once thought higher education was out of reach.
Beyond healthcare, Governor Kemp unveiled the Georgia Career Navigator and the Top State for Talent Act, initiatives designed to bridge education and workforce systems while creating career pathways accessible to all Georgians. Special attention is being given to rural communities, inspiring ninth graders to plan for their futures and providing adults with opportunities to gain new skills.
The construction and manufacturing sectors are also seeing a boost, with a $1 million investment in technical schools to enhance workforce capacity. Complementing this, a two-year grant from the BlackRock Foundation supports programs like the “Last Mile Fund,” which helps students overcome financial barriers, and “Training on the Go,” enabling learners to earn credentials for in-demand fields. The Empowerment Fund expands pre-apprenticeship programs in advanced manufacturing and construction, preparing the next generation of skilled professionals.
Additionally, the Georgia Association of Manufacturers is launching a digital platform to connect job seekers with apprenticeships, training programs, and career opportunities. According to a 2024 Georgia Chamber of Commerce survey, workforce shortages remain a top concern for 62% of business executives—underscoring the urgency of these initiatives.
Through these programs, Georgia is taking a proactive approach to solve workforce challenges, foster business growth, and strengthen economic stability across the state. The message is clear: Georgia is not just building businesses—it’s building the future.
